Dual Plate Wafer Type Check Valve

The dual plate wafer type check valve is made up of valve body, discs, stem and springs, and is connected by wafer type. Due to the short closing stroke of the valve discs and the springs' attached, the water hammer phenomenon can be significantly reduced. It is mainly used for water supply and drainage pipe networks of municipal, industrial and high-rise buildings. Because its structural length is shorter than that of general check valves, it is convenient to install.

Dual Plate Wafer Type Check Valve vs Swing Check Valve

When comparing the dual plate wafer type check valve to the swing check valve, the differences go beyond just structure—they influence installation, efficiency, and overall system performance. Both are essential components in preventing backflow in fluid systems, but they serve slightly different needs depending on the application.

The dual plate wafer type check valve features two spring-loaded plates hinged at the center, allowing for rapid closing when flow stops. This mechanism minimizes the risk of water hammer, making it ideal for high-pressure or variable-flow environments. Its wafer-type body fits tightly between flanges, saving space and reducing weight—an advantage for compact pipeline designs. In contrast, the swing check valve uses a single disc that swings open with forward flow and closes under its own weight or reverse flow pressure. While simple and reliable, its larger size and slower response can be a drawback in dynamic systems.

From a pressure loss perspective, dual plate valves typically perform better. Their streamlined flow path and quicker closure reduce energy loss. Swing check valves, on the other hand, tend to cause slightly more pressure drop due to their larger moving part and flow resistance.

At Ningjin Thriveon, we manufacture both valve types using high-quality materials, ensuring durability and resistance to corrosion. Our valves are trusted in demanding environments, from municipal water supply to power plants, and are exported globally—including to the USA, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Italy. Our experienced engineering team offers technical support to help clients select the most suitable valve type for their needs.

Maintenance is another factor to consider. Swing check valves are easier to disassemble and inspect, which suits systems where regular maintenance is expected. However, in high-cycle or vibration-prone systems, dual plate valves provide greater stability and longevity.

If you're looking for a compact, efficient, and fast-closing solution, the dual plate wafer check valve is often the better option. But for simple, low-cost installations where space is not an issue, swing check valves remain a solid choice. Understanding these differences allows for smarter, more efficient pipeline design.

How Does a Dual Plate Wafer Type Check Valve Work?

The dual plate wafer type check valve is engineered for efficiency and reliability in demanding pipeline systems. Its design centers around two spring-loaded plates (discs) that rotate on a central shaft and are housed within a wafer-style body, allowing it to maintain tight shut-off while minimizing pressure loss.

When fluid flows in the correct direction, the pressure lifts both plates open, permitting full flow with minimal resistance. As soon as the flow stops or reverses, the torsion spring mechanism closes the plates quickly, preventing backflow. This swift action reduces water hammer and mechanical stress—two major concerns in high-pressure systems.

Compared to traditional swing check valves, this configuration is more compact and can be installed between standard flanges without requiring special support. Its lightweight structure means lower installation costs and less strain on piping infrastructure. Additionally, the wafer design allows for installation in both horizontal and vertical pipe orientations, making it highly versatile for a wide range of applications.

At Ningjin Thriveon, we manufacture our dual wafer check valves using premium stainless steel or carbon steel components with corrosion-resistant finishes. The seat and shaft components are engineered for long-term service even in harsh media environments like seawater, industrial chemicals, or steam lines. Our valves are commonly used in HVAC systems, fire protection networks, power plants, and chemical process industries—where system integrity and operational efficiency are paramount.

As a leading butterfly valve supplier in Northern China, Ningjin Thriveon exports to the USA, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. Our team of experienced engineers provides fast response support and technical customization services. With years of consistent quality and service, we’ve earned a reputation for delivering high-performance valves that meet international standards.

The dual plate wafer type check valve offers a compact, cost-effective, and durable backflow prevention solution. Its innovative mechanism ensures minimal pressure loss and fast shut-off, which ultimately enhances the safety and efficiency of modern pipeline systems.

What Is a Double Check Valve Used For?

A double check valve is a vital component in fluid systems that demand stringent backflow prevention. But what is a double check valve used for, and why is it so commonly specified in water supply, fire protection, and industrial systems?

Essentially, a double check valve assembly (DCVA) uses two spring-loaded, independently operating check valves housed in a single body. This dual-valve configuration provides redundant protection, ensuring that even if one valve fails, the other can still prevent contaminated water or other media from flowing backward into clean lines. These valves are critical in potable water systems, HVAC units, irrigation, and chemical processing pipelines.

In fire sprinkler systems, for example, a double check valve protects the municipal water supply from potential chemical infiltration. Similarly, in industrial facilities handling chemicals or solvents, it guards against pressure surges that could send hazardous media in the wrong direction. For this reason, many local building codes and international standards require the use of double check valves in certain high-risk installations.

At Ningjin Thriveon, we offer high-performance double check valves as part of our comprehensive inflow control solutions. As a leading valve supplier in Northern China, our double check valves are engineered with durable, corrosion-resistant materials, precision sealing surfaces, and a compact body suitable for both horizontal and vertical mounting. Each product is factory-tested to ensure optimal sealing under varying pressure conditions.

Compared with other types like the swing or lift check valve, the double check valve is more robust in systems where failure is not an option. Its compact structure allows for easy integration into tight pipeline layouts, and maintenance is straightforward thanks to its modular design.

If you're working on a plumbing system that connects to a public water supply or involves variable pressure conditions, installing a double check valve is both a safety requirement and an industry best practice. And with Thriveon's experienced engineering team, you're assured of prompt support and technical guidance—whether you need help with specifications or a tailored solution for your project.
